This program is not mandated and is not for credit recovery or promotion, but serves as an opportunity for students to gain and maintain reading and math skills. Classes will be taught by high quality staff and address Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards. The goal of the program is to provide additional academic instruction and supports to address potential learning loss and help students solidify foundations for mastering grade level standards. Students who have a current IEP will be provided inclusion services and accommodations as they work toward recovering academic skills.
Classes will be conducted 2 days per week for 8 weeks (Tuesday- reading and Thursday-math) beginning the week of June 1, 2021 and concluding the week of July 26, 2021. Classes will meet for approximately four hours each day. No classes will be held the week of July 5, 2021. Location of classes will be determined based on the number of students enrolled. Students may choose to attend both literacy and math classes.
The summer recovery program is offered free of charge to students; however, anyone interested in attending must complete and submit a survey application no later than May 3, 2021. This application is available on the district website. Official enrollment in the program will be based upon district eligibility criteria. Transportation and lunch will be provided to all students enrolled in the summer recovery program.
