Transportation Director responsibilities
Oversees all aspects of student transportation and the maintenance of all district owned vehicles. Also, manages transportation employees (Bus drivers, mechanics, secretary, etc.).

16th Section Land Manager responsibilities
Oversees all 16th Section Land in the district and provides required reports to the School Board and appropriate State Agencies. The Director is expected to work with staff and other agencies (local and state) to establish and maintain a healthy work relationship.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Transportation)
  • Safe transportation of all students.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain department protocols and procedures that ensure effective and efficient operations within the transportation department (Training, budgets, bus routes, reports, repairs, maintenance, staff supervision, etc.)
  • Recruitment and retention of high-quality employees within the department.
  • Build and maintain a culture consistent with the core beliefs and strategic plan of the district.
  • Ensure that the department is in compliance with all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
  • Provide guidance to bus drivers in dealing with student behavior problems and assist in coordinating disciplinary action with the school administrators and parents as appropriate.
  • Investigate all bus accidents or near accidents to determine causes and to prevent recurrences. Document and file accident report form.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Monitor and advise the superintendent of road conditions during inclement weather.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (16th Section)
  • Work closely with Superintendent’s office, office manager and business manager. Keep the superintendent informed about all 16th section leases and concerns.
  • Work with MS Forestry on the supervision of the maintenance of the 16th section land.
  • Communicate with all 16th section leases about the changes in lease policies.
  • Ensure that the department is in compliance with all state laws and regulations regarding 16th section lands.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • 21 years of age
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of background check
  • Successful experience in a supervisory role
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to obtain a commercial driver’s license with a school bus endorsement
  • Strong driving and employment record
  • Strong communication skills including written and oral communication

PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with school transportation
  • 5 years of leadership experience
  • Technological aptitude
