     YEARBOOKS:  The 2011-2012 Yearbooks will be issued to students beginnning May 8.  Loyd Star's yearbook is always the best around.  This year it will contain 188 full colored pages!  We have a limited number of extra yearbooks to sell for $70.00 so don't miss out if you didn't order online with Jostens.  See the office to get a form for a yearbook but REMEMBER...limited numbers are available.

 Congrats to our FFA for putting on a fantastic banquet.  We appreciate Mr. Billy Sumrall for his dedication to FFA and look for many more great years to come under his leadership.  During the course of the banquet, students received FFA awards presented by Billy Sumrall (Loyd Star FFA Sponsor).

New Immunization Requirement Announced For 7th Grade Entry in 2012-2013 School Year
  • Jackson, Mississippi- The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) will require the Tdap vaccination for all students entering 7th grade beginning with the coming school year (2012-2013)
  • The Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) has previously been a recommended vaccination for this age group since 2006, and 41 other states have already implemented this particular vaccination requirement.
  • Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, has increased in frequency across the country in recent years, as protection from the childhood pertussis vaccine has become weaker over time in the adolescent population.
  • “By vaccinating our adolescents, we can decrease illness in this group and reduce exposure and illness in infants,” said State Health Officer Dr. Mary Currier. “Pertussis can be particularly deadly for newborns, and it is essential to limit their exposure to the disease since they are too young to receive a vaccine against it.”
  • Additional recommended vaccinations for preteens include those against meningococcal disease, human papillomavirus (HPV), and a second dose of cairvella vaccine for those who have not received one at an earlier age.“We still strongly recommend the Tdap vaccine for all adolescents, however it is only required for those entering 7th grade,” said Dr. Currier.
  • The required Tdap vaccination and other recommended vaccinations are available at health department clinics throughout the state and through all Vaccines for Children (VFC) providers for a $10 administrative fee per vaccine.
  • The Tdap is being offered free of charge at the Health Department during April 23-27, 8am-4pm.

  •      Congratulations to Senior Beta Club members on having a successful trip to the Beta Club state convention in Tupelo.  Two of our very own recieved high honors:  Bretton Crosby received a $250 leadership scholarship and Anna C. Smith won 2nd place in math at this state competition.  She is eligible to compete at Nationals.  If you'd like to help send Anna to national competition please see sponsor, Mrs. Lydia King for more information.
