Seventeen MS Scholar students from Enterprise received a total of almost $10,000 in scholoarships at the MS Scholars Banquet Tuesday, April 30th. Scholar students include:

Mississippi Ag in the Classroom^® is a school-based program helping students in grades K – 12 learn about agriculture, the source of their food supply and the role of agriculture in society.  This program is sponsored by Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Women’s Committee.

This March, students at Enterprise had the privilege to compete at Ole Miss in the Inaugural First Tech Challenge Mississippi State Robotics Competition. Enterprise sent two teams, EAC Survivors and Enterprise Engineering Corps, for a total of fourteen students to Oxford to compete in the Ring-It-Up Challenge. After a grueling day of jam-packed robotics matches, the EAC Survivors worked tirelessly and produced a fantastic working robot, and the Enterprise Engineering Corps ranked fourth in the state to continue on in the championship round. After spending all day as the underdog with a non working robotic arm and barely scoring a handful of points, this team showed excellent defense maneuvers and went three rounds with the defending state champions, along with Loyd Star’s robotics team. Ultimately, the Enterprise Engineering Corps lost out in the third match of the championship. However, due to excellent team spirit and extreme showmanship in defense, Enterprise Engineering Corps was awarded the Motivate award. All five Lincoln County teams did an excellent job of representing the Brookhaven community in Oxford, with three teams playing in championship matches. As a result of their dedication and hard work, the Lincoln County teams were asked to showcase at the First Robotics Challenge Regional Competition in New Orleans last month as well. Both Enterprise teams were able to take their revamped and repaired robots to this competition and amaze competitors and visitors with their prized robots. Both teams would like to issue a special thanks to Mr. David Bryant, Mr. Sean Lea, and all the parents who helped make this season a success.

Prominent members in attendance were the state’s senators and representatives, Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Cindy Hyde-Smith, and Vice President of Sanderson Farms Glenn Caves. FFA members and advisors from all over the state were invited to take part.

Members were welcomed by Commissioner Hyde-Smith and the key note speaker, Glenn Caves, spoke on ways to “Grow” through FFA and as members of society. Caves spoke about ways to better our economy, government, and our Nation just through people doing their part, which FFA instilled in him. Caves, a former State FFA President and former National FFA Officer, says his involvement in FFA made him who he is today.

After the breakfast was adjourned, the FFA members went to the south steps of the Capital to witness FFA’s first flag ceremony to be held after the breakfast. The ceremony displayed the American flag and talked about how President Washington’s involvement in American Agriculture and how he set the standard for FFA’s office of the Treasurer. The FFA Flag was displayed, explaining how FFA came from a little over 30 farm boys wanting to involve agriculture in their schools in 1928, and how it has grown to over 500,000 members in the United States and Puerto Rico. The Mississippi Flag was displayed to signify when the Mississippi FFA Association was formed, how it has grown, and that Mississippi is one of the only states to have a Junior FFA Association.

Once the flag ceremony was over, FFA members and their advisors were invited to tour the capitol and meet with their representatives and senators. The State FFA Officers addressed the Senate at their 10:00 am meeting, while the FFA members and advisors were invited to watch.

This was a great experience for our students; students in attendance through Enterprise FFA were Brant White, Hope Padgett, and Braxton Thompson.

Members of Senior Beta and Student Council visited Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in December. Students in grades K-12 generously donated money, coloring books, crayons, games, and other fun items to the kids and even adopted a floor. Rainee Luper said, “It was a good experience and I enjoyed visiting with the children.”
