December 7, 2017

 

  1. Good luck to our Hornet basketball teams TONIGHT against Sacred Heart at Enterprise.
  2. Good luck to our Hornet soccer team TOMORROW NIGHT at Wesson. JV game is cancelled the Varsity girls will play at 5 and the Varsity boys will play at 6:30.
  3. Next week we will have dress up week – Christmas Spirit Week. Check the posters around campus for days.
  4. Yearbook order forms are being sent home this week. (Teachers should hand out in FIRST PERIOD in all grades. Order forms are on purple paper.)
  5. The Beta Club and Student Council are sponsoring their annual Can Food Drive. Turn can goods in to your first period teacher. The competition is between the four county schools with the winning school receiving a trophy for the most cans collected. Last year West Lincoln won the trophy. Let’s work hard to win the trophy this year. Deadline has been extended to Friday, December 15.
  6. The Loyd Star Teen Age Republicans will be collecting socks and slippers to take to residents of area nursing homes for Christmas. The 1st period class that brings the most in grades K-6 and also in grades 7-12 will be rewarded with a pizza party. Please encourage your students to donate to this worthwhile cause. We will collect from Monday, December 4th - Friday, December 15th.
  7. This is a reminder from Mrs. Russell about choir practice during break in the nice, WARM choir room every Tuesday and Wednesday until the concert on December 15.
  8. Juniors and Seniors - If you would like community service hours and are willing to help the Salvation Army ringing bells this holiday season, please come by the counselor's office for more information.

SENIORS:

  1. We are in the process of requesting senior privileges and planning your senior trip. Please get with the senior officers, Brantley Brister, Aliza Abrams, and Sam Edwards with any ideas you may have. All of these requests and ideas will be taken through next Wednesday, December 6. Trip choices will be voted on after Mrs. Case approves your choices. Looking forward to a great remaining part of our year!
  2. Senior Parents - Get2College has two upcoming parent webinars offered at the lunch hour, free of charge. All you need is a device with an internet connection, and you can join via Zoom video conferencing from wherever you are. Online registration is required at www.get2college.org and opens two weeks before the webinar date. Once you register, you will receive a link to join, followed by a recording after the webinar.
  3. All Seniors need to complete the State Financial Aid Application. Either go to www.mississippi.edu or at the end of the fafsa application, it will ask you if you want to apply for state financial aid and you can apply there. Even if you don't qualify for fafsa, many students will qualify for state financial aid which includes MTAG. MTAG is not based on income.
  4. ALL ABOUT THE FAFSA & STATE AID IN MISSISSIPPI is Tuesday, Dec. 12, 12-1pm. If you are a parent of a senior and have never completed FAFSA before, this webinar is highly recommended.
  5. Any senior who has played Dixie Youth Baseball when 12 years of younger is eligible to apply for this scholarship. Applications can be picked up in the counselor's office. Deadline to apply is Feb. 1, 2018.
  6. Seniors who plan to attend Co-Lin can now apply for the Taylor Presidential Scholarship. To be eligible it is recommended to have an ACT score of 25 or greater. Seniors may pick up an application in the counselor's office. Deadline to apply is February 1, 2018
  7. Seniors: The Mississippi Association of Supervisors is now accepting applications for the 2018 MAS County Employee Scholarship Program. MAS will award up to two $500 scholarships per county. Applicants must have an immediate family member currently working for or retired from a Mississippi county to be eligible to apply. County employee means any person working directly for the county government (not a school district, county hospital or other entity) Students who qualify can either go to http://www.mssupervisors.org/scholarship-program to download an application or come to the counselor's office to pick up an application. Deadline to apply is March 1, 2018.
